Thanks for that explaniation Graham .I was puzzled on how my 1996 2.5 fiat Hymer single glow plug system worked.I have never had a problem strarting but noticed that it only came on when the temp was minus deg.It then stayed on and flashed while the engine was running until the temp increased. The fuse for this is F02 50A, in the engine bay fusebox. The basic relay for this glowplug is located under the hood at the rear of the engine bay. The fuel valve is supplied via F11, secondary injection services, and controlled by relay T20, both of which devices are to be found in the engine bay fusebox.

Unscrew the drain screw under the diesel fuel filter (jar or something similar underneath to catch fuel) if its water in the fuel system it will gather there until its full, then its into the engine! Poor quality fuel is the cause, recommend him to Shell or BP stations if there are any near him and a diesel fuel filter change
Flame start is different to glow plugs in that it is basically direct injection & all you are doing is warming the intake air to make starting easier. Glow plugs mean the engine is indirect injection & will rarely start if they do not operate. Subscribers do not see these advertisements.
