I’ve owned both the the NAD 388 and the Halo Int (original). The NAD had a overall neutral, albeit slightly "cold" sound to it. There was a touch of grain to its treble to my ears as well. The Halo Int in all honesty was superior in almost every respect. I’ve since gone all tubes, but the Int was a fine integrated and could’ve lived with it.
So further on the C388 MM Phono stage. The dealer view on the quality of the Phono stage seems to be reasonably accurate. I can now categorically say, the Graham Slee Reflex M and IC combo was markedly improved over the onboard MM stage of the NAD. So the ~$1500 combo does beat the stage hands down.

Interestingly, two different Stereophile reviewers claimed that the NAD D3020 drove LS50s to high volume with no problems. It's 30 wpc into 8. They don't give a rating for 4, but it would be larger. This is a Hypex amplifier, as is the Nad M10, and several of the newer C series (and the Bluesound Powernode). The NAD C368 sounds better, sweeter with more clarity than the Rotel. Since the room is quite small, I don't usually crank up the volume. Given that I listen at a moderate volume, if I upgrade to Dynaudio X18 (4ohm instead of 8ohm X14), will it sound better, with more bass? Or should I upgrade to a beefier amp also? The NAD C368 is rated at 80W
Oct 2, 2010. #6. The Roksan deserves a better source than either MD or your NAD player. Book some time with your dealer to audition either new CD players or lossless streaming devices. If the quality isn't there at the source end you are never going to hear it. The amp and speakers can't 'improve' an inadequate source!

The C 700 is not a heater. The unit is warm to the touch, but puts out very little heat. It's currently -14º F in Minneapolis, and I could use a little heat, but in the big picture, it's likely a benefit for most users that the C 700 doesn't double as both an amplifier and room heater.
