Back in March 2020 Digital Foundry did a video on Xbox one games being upgraded to 4K via backwards compatibility like Gears Ultimate. Similar to back when they did this during the Xbox one X era with 360 games.

While this isn't the 4K upgrade seen on the Xbox One X that will carry over to Xbox Series X, it's a far cry from leaving the games untouched in spite of the more limited Xbox Series S specs. This is just educated speculation, but im pretty sure that only games that made it onto Xbox 360's Backwards compatibility have a chance of coming to To Xbox One. They've been pre-approved for backwards compatibility purposes so there's a lot less Hoops to jump through. So under this assumption, Mech Assault won't be coming to Xbox One.

The advantages I can think of for backward compatibility on the Series X are: FPS boost on some original and 360 titles, increased resolution on all original Xbox titles and some 360 titles (this also applies to the One X), Auto HDR on most titles, and faster loading times because of the SSD.
